Cooling and drying. Expectorant, relaxing diaphoretic, diuretic, alterative, soothing nervine and mild laxative.  
Elder flowers add a delightful flavor to fever relieving formulas. They have been used in acute ailments, especially inflammation. Also, they have been added to skin salves for burns, and minor cuts. Elder flowers have traditionally been used in early stages of cough, flu and colds. They have been used for spasmodic croup cough, night sweats and skin eruptions from metabolic issues.
