Traditionally, it was used to soothe lung troubles and coughs. It has been used externally in the same way to heal wounds, bones, and sores. The root is also said to contain higher amounts of steroidal saponins, making it a folklore remedy for some forms of pain.
Note: contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
